VH Nishad

VH Nishad is a short story writer, novelist, journalist, and teacher. He was one of the founders and the literary editor of Free Press, a magazine published from Delhi, which marked the beginning of longform investigative journalism in Malayalam. After Free Press,  worked as a journalist for nearly a decade in publications like India Today, News Today, Covert Magazine, and The Times of India.

Nishad made a switch to journalism teaching and taught in a number of colleges in Kannur University. Currently, he is the head of the department of journalism at Sir Syed College, Taliparamba. He has also held positions such as the course director of the Department of Journalism at Kannur University, chairman of the Board of Studies in Journalism, and a member of the editorial board of the English little magazine Indian Ink.

He has received recognitions like the MathrubhumiVishu Edition Short Story Award, the MuttathuVarkey College Story Award, the MP Narayana Pillai Short Story Award, the Nav Short Story Award, the Balakrishnan Mangad Short Story Award, and the Ankanam-EP Sushama Endowment Award.

He has written stories and scripts for short films like Block, Aval, Cheque, and Manju Pole. His short film Aval was selected for the Indian Panorama section in 2010.
