About Us

Wayanad Literature Festival, or the WLF, is organised by the people who grew up in the hill district of Wayanad, which sits at the tri-junction of Kerala, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, the three south Indian states. We speak many languages, but we understand our neighbouring cultures. We grow the spices for the world, but our taste buds are diverse as our roots. We read widely, we write, draw, act and we create. One of the first expressions of humans still visible is marked in our rocks at Edakkal, 8000 years ago, in the stone age. Nestled in a biodiversity hotspot, we also breathe fresh air, which we gladly offer to every visitor. WLF is that time when the world comes to a Wayanadan village to think, listen, read and talk.

The Wayanad Literature Festival provides an opportunity for the people of Wayanad and surrounding areas to step away from their daily routines and engage with their beloved authors, musicians, artists, and public intellectuals. In return, the visitors get chance to connect with everyday people who bring the soul of this place to life.

Twenty committees operate under the Organising Committee, with over a hundred and fifty community leaders contributing to make WLF a truly people-powered event. These leaders come from all walks of life—elected representatives, school teachers, farmers, small business owners, auto-rickshaw drivers, porters, engineers, doctors etc. What unites them all is their shared passion for literature and meaningful debate.
