Sukhdev Singh Kokri is India’s preeminent farmers’ leader and the General Secretary of Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) Ekta-Ugrahan, the largest and most influential farmers’ union in Punjab. Kokri led the historic 2020-2021 farmers agitation, where lakhs of farmers marched to Delhi and surrounded the national capital for over a year protesting the farm laws passed by the Union government. 

Known for its strong grassroots support in Punjab’s Malwa region, BKU Ekta-Ugrahan operates independently and has often spearheaded significant initiatives, including staging prolonged protests and targeting corporate entities for their perceived role in agricultural distress​.

Kokri retired as a science teacher and has been an integral part of the union’s leadership, contributing to its reputation for resilience and strategic autonomy. Despite challenges and disagreements with other farmers’ unions, BKU Ekta-Ugrahan has maintained its focus on advocating for farmers’ rights, often taking bold and unconventional stances during movements. Kokri’s leadership reflects a deep commitment to grassroots mobilization and addressing systemic agricultural issues faced by the soiling masses.

പ്രശസ്തനായ കർഷക നേതാവും, പഞ്ചാബിലെ ഭാരതീയ കിസാൻ യൂണിയൻ (BKU) ‘ഏക്താ ഉഗ്രഹണി’ന്റെ  ജനറൽ സെക്രട്ടറിയുമാണ് സുഖ്ദേവ് സിംഗ് കോക്റി. 2020-2021 കാലത്ത് ഡൽഹി  തലസ്ഥാന നഗരിയിൽ നടന്ന  ചരിത്രപ്രസിദ്ധമായ കർഷക സമരത്തിന്റെ നേതാവായിരുന്നു ഇദ്ദേഹം. ലക്ഷക്കണക്കിന് കർഷകർ അണിനിരന്ന ഈ സമരം കേന്ദ്രസർക്കാർ പാസാക്കിയ കാർഷിക നിയമങ്ങൾക്കെതിരെ ആയിരുന്നു.

സ്വതന്ത്രമായി പ്രവർത്തിച്ചുവരുന്ന ബികെയു (Ekta-Ugrahan)-വിന്  പഞ്ചാബിലെ മാൽവിയിൽ ശക്തമായ പിന്തുണയാണ് ലഭിച്ചുകൊണ്ടിരിക്കുന്നത്. ഈ സംഘടന കർഷകർക്ക് നേരിടേണ്ടിവരുന്ന അതിക്രമങ്ങൾക്കെതിരെ പ്രതിഷേധിക്കുകയും, പ്രക്ഷോഭങ്ങൾക്ക് നേതൃത്വം നൽകുകയും ചെയ്യുന്നു.

ശാസ്ത്ര അധ്യാപകനായി വിരമിച്ച കോക്റി, യൂണിയന്റെ വളർച്ചയിൽ ഒരു മുഖ്യ പങ്കാളി ആയിരുന്നു. മറ്റ് കർഷക യൂണിയനുകളുമായി നിരവധി പ്രശ്നങ്ങൾ നേരിടേണ്ടി വന്നെങ്കിലും കർഷകന്റെ അവകാശങ്ങൾ കണക്കിലെടുത്തുകൊണ്ട് സംഘടന സ്വന്തം നിലപാടുകളിലൂന്നി മുന്നോട്ട് പോകുന്നു.
