Wayanad Literature Festival is India’s first and the largest rurally-held literature festival. It is held once every two years, and in the 2024 edition, we plan to have an International Academic Conference along with the festival. How can the space for creativity exist without the camaraderie of thinkers and researchers?
The International Academic Conference @ WLF will be interdisciplinary. That means we are open to considering papers from any discipline, as long as they are rigorous, follow accepted methodology of the concerned subject, and demonstrate a growing expertise of the scholar in the subject.
The theme of the Conference is That Which Makes a Difference to People and Society.
Wayanad, sitting as a plateau atop the pristine Western Ghats, one of the two hottest hot biodiversities in the Indian subcontinent besides the Eastern Himalayas, witnessed a large human and ecological catastrophe this year. In a massive landslide, four hundred people are killed, two hundred still missing, and nearly ten thousand rendered homeless. Besides the day-to-day affairs of temperatures rising, irregular rainy cycles, spread of myriad new diseases, climate change also poses a big threat of possibly changing the landscape of a region, submerging a city, even a country. When our planet is under threat, the corporations contributing to the worst ecological disasters continue to operate so scotfree, and governments do very little than what is desired of them. Ecology is one subject dear to us this year at WLF, and is going to take a full day of the three days at the IAC.
We welcome abstracts from the following areas:
history, political science, sociology, ecology, media, communication, law, economics, literature, film studies, philosophy, engineering, life sciences, education, health, public policy, architecture, art, religious studies, psychology, technology, commerce, business etc.
The conference will be held in physical mode, however some of the sessions could be exempted from that requirement and maybe held in a hybrid mode. This will be decided by the group of subject experts and certificates of presentation will be issued at the festival itself. We also plan to publish the proceedings after peer review.
The conference session will be arranged in three formats: long talk, speed talk and poster pre
sentation. Kindly mention in the abstract which of the three you would prefer.
Proceedings of the paper will be published.
(short abstract in less than 75 words and long abstract in less than 300 words)
WLF is much more than a literature festival. Besides the academic conference, we also
have film festival, food festival, art biennale, children’s fest, cultural performances, heritage
walk, farmers market, masterclasses, and chess tournament. Organised in the last
weekend of the year, WLF is when the world comes to Wayanad, a UNESCO World
Heritage Site, to think, listen, read, talk and get rejuvenated. We hope to see you in
Wayanad.
