Kamal Varadoor, also known as Musthafa Kamal, is the editor of the daily newspaper Chandrika. A native of the village of Varadoor in Kerala’s Wayanad district, he has had an impressive 28-year career as a sports journalist. 

Throughout his career, Kamal has covered almost every major global sports championship for Chandrika, including the Olympics in Paris, Rio (2016), and London (2012); FIFA World Cups in Qatar (2022), Russia (2018), and Brazil (2014); FIFA Club World Cups in 2021, 2019, and 2017; Cricket World Cups in 2023, 2019, and 2011; AFC Asian Cups in Qatar (2024) and 2019; and other notable events such as Wimbledon (2020), FIFA U-17 World Cups (UAE 2013, 2017), Doha Arab Games (2011), China Asian Games (2010), Delhi Commonwealth Games (2010), and Qatar Asian Games (2006). 

He has also conducted interviews with numerous sports icons, including Pelé, Lionel Messi, Sachin Tendulkar, Zico, Ruud Gullit, Marco van Basten, Sania Mirza, Sourav Ganguly, Mohammed Azharuddin, and Kapil Dev. 

Kamal Varadoor’s contributions to journalism have been widely recognized. He has been a member of the BBC Indian Sports Jury for three consecutive terms and has received the Keraliyam Award for overall sports contribution, presented by Vice President Venkaiah Naidu. 

He was also awarded the State Government’s Best Sports Reporter Award and is a two-time recipient of the Mushtaq Sports Journalism Award. In addition, he has garnered six international awards, including the Al Jazeera International Media Award, Kuwait-Haritham, and Dubai KMCC. 

Within the journalism community, Kamal has held significant leadership roles, serving as State President and Treasurer of the Kerala Union of Working Journalists, and as President and Secretary of the Calicut Press Club. He is also a faculty member at the Calicut Press Club’s Journalism Institute.

കായിക പത്രപ്രവർത്തന രംഗത്ത് ഇരുപത്തിയെട്ട് വർഷത്തെ അനുഭവസമ്പത്ത്. ആഗോള കായിക ലോകത്തെ പ്രധാന ചാമ്പ്യൻ ഷിപ്പുകളെല്ലാം റിപ്പോർട്ട് ചെയ്‌തു.

പെലെ, ലയണൽ മെസി, അലക്സാണ്ടറോ ദെൽപിയാറോ, മൈക്കൽ സിൽ സവസ്റ്റർ, റോബർട്ടോ കാർലോസ്, സച്ചിൻ ടെണ്ടുൽക്കർ, സീക്കോ, റുഡോ ഗുളി റ്റ്, മാർക്കോ വാൻബാസ്റ്റൺ, ഹാരി കെവിൽ, അഭിനവ് ബിന്ദ്ര, സാനിയ മിർസ, സൗരവ് ഗാംഗുലി, മുഹമ്മദ് അസ്ഹറുദ്ദീൻ, കപിൽദേവ് തുടങ്ങിയ നിരവധി കായിക പ്രതിഭകളുമായി അഭിമുഖങ്ങൾ നടത്തി. 

സമഗ്ര കായിക സംഭാവനക്കുള്ള കേരളീയം പുരസ്ക്കാരം ഉപരാഷ്ട്രപതി വെങ്കയ്യ നായിഡുവിൽ നിന്നും സ്വീകരിച്ചു. സംസ്ഥാന സർക്കാരിന്റെ മികച്ച സ്പോർട്‌സ് റിപ്പോർട്ടർ അവാർഡും കാലിക്കറ്റ് പ്രസ് ക്ലബിന്റെ മുഷ്‌താഖ് സ്പോർട്‌സ് ജർണലിസം അവാർഡും രണ്ട് തവണ നേടി. അൽ ജസീറ ഇന്റർനാഷണൽ മീഡിയാ അവാർഡ്, കുവൈറ്റ് -ഹരിതം, ദുബൈ കെ.എം.സി.സി ഉൾപ്പെടെ ആറ് അന്തർദേശിയ പുരസ്ക്കാരങ്ങൾ കരസ്ഥമാക്കി.
