Bose Krishnamachari

Contemporary Artist, Art Curator, Co-founder – Kochi-Muziris Biennale.

Bose Krishnamachari, a native of Mangattukara village in Kerala, is best known as the co-founder of the Kochi-Muziris Biennale. He is an alumnus of Sir J. J. School of Art, Mumbai, and furthered his studies at Goldsmiths College, University of London, in 2000.

Krishnamachari’s diverse artistic practice spans vivid abstract paintings, figurative drawings, sculpture, photography, multimedia installations, and architecture. His work often engages with imagery from mass media and digital technology, showing influences of photorealism and echoes of 1960s Pop Art from the U.S. and Britain.

A recipient of several prestigious accolades, including the Lifetime Fellowship Award from Kerala Lalit Kala Akademi, Krishnamachari is deeply committed to advancing art education in India. This commitment led him, along with other artists and experts, to establish the Kochi Biennale Foundation in 2010, ultimately bringing the internationally acclaimed Kochi-Muziris Biennale to India.

In 2021, Krishnamachari curated ‘Lokame Tharavadu,’ a significant contemporary art exhibition. This event showcased the works of 267 artists across five venues in Alappuzha and Durbar Hall, Ernakulam, as a powerful tribute to the artistic community’s resilience during the pandemic.

He currently lives and works in Mumbai.

ചിത്രകാരൻ, ആർട് ക്യൂറേറ്റർ, സഹസ്ഥാപകൻ – കൊച്ചി-മുസിരിസ് ബിനാലെ

കേരളത്തിലെ മങ്ങാട്ടുകര ഗ്രാമത്തിൽ ജനിച്ച ബോസ് കൃഷ്ണമാചാരി, കൊച്ചി-മുസിരിസ് ബിനാലെയുടെ സഹസ്ഥാപകൻ എന്ന നിലയിലാണ് പ്രധാനമായും അറിയപ്പെടുന്നത്. മുംബൈയിലെ സർ ജെ.ജെ. സ്കൂൾ ഓഫ് ആർടിൽ നിന്ന് ബിരുദം നേടിയ ശേഷം  2000-ൽ ലണ്ടൻ യൂണിവേഴ്സിറ്റിയിലെ ഗോൾഡ്സ്മിത്ത്സ് കോളേജിൽ ഉപരിപഠനം നടത്തി.

തിളക്കമാർന്ന അബ്സ്ട്രാക്ട് പെയിന്റിംഗുകൾ, ഫിഗറേറ്റീവ് ഡ്രോയിംഗുകൾ, ശിൽപങ്ങൾ, ഫോട്ടോഗ്രാഫി, മൾട്ടിമീഡിയ ഇൻസ്റ്റലേഷനുകൾ, ആർക്കിടെക്ചർ എന്നിവ ചേർന്നതാണ് കൃഷ്ണമാചാരിയുടെ വൈവിധ്യമാർന്ന കലാ രചനകൾ. മാസ് മീഡിയയിൽ നിന്നും ഡിജിറ്റൽ സാങ്കേതികവിദ്യയിൽ നിന്നും ഉരുത്തിരിഞ്ഞവയാണ്  പലപ്പോഴും  അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ സൃഷ്ടികൾ. ഫോട്ടോ-റിയലിസത്തിൻ്റെ സ്വാധീനങ്ങളും, 1960-കളിൽ യു.എസ്സിലും ബ്രിട്ടനിലും ഉയർന്നുവന്ന പോപ്പ് ആർട്ടിന്റെ പ്രതിധ്വനികളും ഈ  കലാസൃഷ്ടികളിൽ പ്രകടമാണ്. 

കേരള ലളിതകലാ അക്കാദമിയുടെ ലൈഫ് ടൈം ഫെലോഷിപ്പ് അവാർഡ് ഉൾപ്പെടെ നിരവധി പ്രമുഖ പുരസ്കാരങ്ങൾ നേടിയ ബോസ്  കൃഷ്ണമാചാരി, ഇന്ത്യയിലെ കലാവിദ്യാഭ്യാസം മെച്ചപ്പെടുത്തുന്നതിൽ  പ്രതിജ്ഞാബദ്ധനായി പ്രവർത്തിക്കുന്നു. ഈ ലക്ഷ്യത്തോടെ  മറ്റു  കലാകാരന്മാരുമായും വിദഗ്ദ്ധരുമായും ചേർന്ന്  അദ്ദേഹം 2010-ൽ കൊച്ചി ബിനാലെ ഫൗണ്ടേഷൻ സ്ഥാപിച്ചു.  ഇത് അന്താരാഷ്ട്രതലത്തിൽ ശ്രദ്ധേയമായ കൊച്ചി-മുസിരിസ് ബിനാലെയെ ഇന്ത്യയിലേക്ക് കൊണ്ടുവന്നു.

2021-ൽ, മഹാമാരിയുടെ പശ്ചാത്തലത്തിൽ കലാകാരന്മാരുടെ അതിജീവന ശേഷിക്കുള്ള ആദരസൂചകമായി, ‘ലോകമേ തറവാട്’ എന്ന പേരിൽ ഒരു  പ്രധാന സമകാലീന കലാപ്രദർശനം കൃഷ്ണമാചാരി ക്യൂറേറ്റ് ചെയ്തു. ആലപ്പുഴയിലെ അഞ്ച് വ്യത്യസ്ത വേദികളിലും എറണാകുളത്തെ ദർബാർ ഹാളിലുമായി 267 കലാകാരന്മാരുടെ സൃഷ്ടികളാണ് ഈ പ്രദർശനത്തിൽ അണിനിരന്നത്.

നിലവിൽ മുംബൈയിൽ താമസിച്ച് കലാ പ്രവർത്തനങ്ങളിൽ ഏർപെടുകയാണ് ബോസ് ബോസ് കൃഷ്ണമാചാരി .
