Balan Vengara

Writer, journalist, revenue officer. 

Balan Vengara is a well-known writer in Malayalam. In 1997, Mulberry Books published his short story collection ‘Penguinukal Parannu Uyarunnu’. His story, ‘Penguinukal Parannu Uyarunnu’, which was written against the backdrop of the demolition of the Babri Masjid and explored the theme of eco-fascism, gained critical acclaim.

He completed his primary education in Kuttalur and Vengara before earning a degree from PSMO College, Tirurangadi. He worked as a journalist for Malayala Manorama and also as a teacher before joining the Revenue Department in 2001, serving in Malappuram and later in Wayanad from 2002 onward.

His 2016 novel ‘Nadhikalakaan Kshanikkunnu’ , published by Mathrubhumi Books, portrays the struggles of tribal life in Wayanad and provides a contemporary perspective on the region.

In 2019, DC Books published his latest novel, ‘Acid Frames’. The novel is based on the legendary life of Stephen Hawking.

ബാലൻ വേങ്ങര

എഴുത്തുകാരൻ, ലേഖകൻ, റവന്യു ഓഫീസർ 

മലയാളത്തിലെ അറിയപ്പെടുന്ന എഴുത്തുകാരനാണ് ബാലൻ വേങ്ങര. 1997-ൽ   പെൻഗ്വിനുകൾ പറന്നുയരുന്നു കഥാസമാഹാരം മൾബെറി ബുക്സ് പുറത്തിറക്കി. ബാബരി മസ്ജിദിന്റെ തകർച്ചയുടെ പശ്ചാത്തലത്തിലെഴുതിയ പെൻഗ്വിനുകൾ പറന്നുയരുന്നു എന്ന കഥ ഇക്കോ-ഫാസിസം പ്രമേയമാക്കിയ നിലയിൽ നിരൂപകശ്രദ്ധ നേടി.

കുറ്റാളൂരും വേങ്ങരയിലുമായി പ്രാഥമിക വിദ്യാഭ്യാസം പൂർത്തിയാക്കിയതിനു ശേഷം പി.എസ്.എം.ഓ. കോളേജ് തിരൂരങ്ങാടിയിൽ നിന്ന് ബിരുദം നേടി.  മലയാള മനോരമ ലേഖകനായും അധ്യാപകനായും പ്രവർത്തിച്ചു. 2001 -ൽ മലപ്പുറത്തും തുടർന്ന് 2002-മുതൽ വയനാട് ജില്ലയിലും റവന്യു വകുപ്പിൽ ജോലി ചെയ്തുവരുന്നു. 

2016-ൽ മാതൃഭുമി ബുക്സ് പുറത്തിറക്കിയ ‘നദികളാകാൻ ക്ഷണിക്കുന്നു’ എന്ന നോവൽ വയനാട്ടിലെ ആദിവാസി ജീവിതത്തിന്റെ വിഹ്വലതകളും വയനാടിന്റെ സമകാലിക നേർകാഴ്ചയും വരച്ചുകാട്ടുന്നതാണ്. 

സ്റ്റീഫൻ ഹോക്കിങ്ങിന്റെ ഐതിഹാസിക ജീവിതം പ്രമേയമായ പുതിയ നോവൽ ‘ആസിഡ് ഫ്രെയിംസ്’ ഡി.സി ബുക്സ് 2019-ൽ പുറത്തിറക്കി.
