Born in 1946, K Satchidanandan is a bilingual poet, critic, playwright, editor,
fiction writer, and travel writer. He has been a Professor of English and
Translation Studies, editor of Indian Literature bimonthly and Beyond Borders,
a SAARC literature quarterly, the executive head of the National Academy of
Letters, and invited National fellow at the Indian Institute of Advanced Studies,
Shimla. K Satchidanandan is currently the President of the Kerala Sahitya
Akademi.  

He has won fifty-two literary awards, including the National Academy award,
Dante Medal from Italy, Poet Laureate Award from Tata Literature Festival,
Mumbai, five awards in five genres from Kerala Sahitya Akademi besides the
topmost awards for poetry, and total literary contribution from Kerala,
Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha and Maharashtra. He has read his poetry
and lectured at several festivals and book fairs in over thirty countries on six
continents and translated poetry from across the world. He has also edited
dozens of books in Malayalam and English, besides several journals.

He has 32 collections of poetry in Malayalam, ten in English, seven in Hindi,
and thirty collections in other languages including Arabic, Irish, French,
German, Italian, Spanish, Chinese and Japanese, besides all major Indian
languages. His latest books of poetry in English include While I Write (Harper-
Collins), Misplaced Objects and Other Poems (Indian National Academy), The
Missing Rib, Not Only the Oceans (Poetrywala, Bombay), The Whispering
Tree, No Borders for Me (both Hawakal, Kolkata) I am a Language (Dhauli
Books, Bhubaneshwar), Questions from the Dead (Copper Coin, Delhi)
and Singing in the Dark (ed. with Nishi Chawla, Penguin-Random House,
India).

His selected essays on Indian literature, Positions, was published by Niyogi
Books, Delhi in 2020 and a collection of resistance writing, Words
Matter, edited and introduced by him came out from Penguin Random House in
2018. Greening the Earth, an international anthology of eco-poetry edited by
him, is due for publication by Penguin Random House in 2022. His complete
oeuvre of both written and edited works includes more than 250 books.

സച്ചിദാനന്ദൻ

സുദീർഘമായ തന്റെ സാഹിത്യജീവിതത്തിലൂടെ മലയാളഭാഷയെയും സാഹിത്യത്തെയും നിരന്തരം നവീകരിച്ചുകൊണ്ടിരിക്കുന്ന എഴുത്തുകാരൻ. കവി, വിവർത്തകൻ, നിരൂപകൻ, പ്രഭാഷകൻ, അദ്ധ്യാപകൻ തുടങ്ങി ഭിന്നവ്യവഹാരങ്ങളിലെ ഇടപെടൽ കൊണ്ടും അപൂർവ്വമായ പ്രതിഭാശാലിത്വം കൊണ്ടും മലയാളസാഹിത്യത്തെ ലോകശ്രദ്ധയിലെത്തിക്കുന്നതിൽ വലിയ പങ്കുവഹിച്ചു.

തൃശൂര്‍ ജില്ലയില്‍ കൊടുങ്ങല്ലൂരിൽ 1945 മേയിലാണ്‌ സച്ചിദാനന്ദന്റെ ജനനം. ജനകീയ സാംസ്കാരികവേദിയിലെ സജീവസാന്നിധ്യമായിരുന്നു. തര്‍ജമകളടക്കം അൻപതോളം കൃതികള്‍ രചിച്ചു. ‘മറന്നുവച്ച വസ്തുക്കൾ’ എന്ന കവിതാ സമാഹാരത്തിന് 2012-ൽ കേന്ദ്ര സാഹിത്യ അക്കാദമി അവാർഡ്
ലഭിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്.കേന്ദ്ര സാഹിത്യ അക്കാദമി പ്രസിദ്ധീകരണമായ
‘ഇന്ത്യൻ ലിറ്ററേച്ചറിന്റെ’ എഡിറ്ററായിരുന്നു.

1995 മുതല്‍ 2006 വരെ കേന്ദ്ര സാഹിത്യ അക്കാദമി സെക്രട്ടറിയായിരുന്നു. അന്റോണിയോ ഗ്രാംഷി, പാബ്ലോ നെരൂദ, യൂജിനിയോ മൊണ്ടേല്‍ തുടങ്ങിയവരെ കേരളത്തിലെ വായനക്കാർക്ക് പരിചയപ്പെടുത്തുന്നതിൽ നിർണ്ണായകമായ പങ്കുവഹിച്ചു. 1989, 1998, 2000, 2009, 2012 വര്‍ഷങ്ങളില്‍ വിവിധ വിഷയങ്ങളില്‍ കേരള സാഹിത്യ അക്കാദമി അവാര്‍ഡിന്‌
അര്‍ഹനായി. വയലാര്‍ അവാര്‍ഡ്‌, പദ്മ്രപഭാപുരസ്കാരം, കേന്ദ്ര സാഹിത്യ അക്കാദമി അവാര്‍ഡ്‌ എന്നീ പുരസ്‌കാരങ്ങള്‍ നേടി. അറബി,ഫ്രഞ്ച്, ഇംഗ്ലീഷ്, ഇറ്റാലിയന്‍, ഐറിഷ്, ചൈനീസ്, ജാപ്പനീസ്, ജര്‍മൻ,ഹിന്ദി, ബംഗാളി ഉള്‍പ്പെടെയുള്ള ഭാഷകളിലേക്ക് കവിതകൾ വിവർത്തനം ചെയ്യപ്പെട്ടിട്ടുണ്ട്.
