Kalpatta Narayanan is an Indian novelist, short story writer, essayist, columnist,
and poet of Malayalam literature. He is the recipient of many distinguished awards including the Basheer Literary Award, Ayyappan Puraskaram, Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award for Literary Criticism and  Padmaprabha Literary Award  for his outstanding contribution to Malayalam literature.

Kalpatta Narayanan was born in a village near  Kalpetta , Wayanad in 1952. He is a
proud alumnus of Government College, Kozhikode. He started his career as a lecturer at Government Brennen College, Thalassery. Later, he also served his alma mater, the Government Arts and Science College, Kozhikode before serving as a visiting professor at the University of Calicut. His powerful speeches at various literary and cultural events have a scintillating effect on his listeners.

With numerous works to his credit, Kalpatta Narayanan has a large reading audience who celebrates his writing. He is known for his novel Ithramathram which has been made into a film, with the same name, in 2012 by K Gopinathan. He has penned many poetry anthologies, criticisms, studies, and general essays and has handled columns in dailies and periodicals. Oru Mudanthante Suvishesham, Kavithayude Jeevacharithram, Ethilayum Madhurikkunna Kadukalil, Ee Kannadayonnu Vachon Nokkoo and Budhapaksham are but some of his
famous works.

കൽപറ്റ നാരായണൻ

സാഹിത്യ നിരൂപകൻ, കവി,നോവലിസ്റ്റ് ,ലേഖകൻ എന്നിങ്ങനെ മലയാളസാഹിത്യത്തിൽ തന്റെതായ കയ്യൊപ്പ് പതിപ്പിച്ച എഴുത്തുകാരനാണ് കല്പറ്റ നാരായണൻ. ബഷീർ സാഹിത്യ പുരസ്‌കാരം, അയ്യപ്പൻ പുരസ്കാരം, വിമർശനത്തിനുള്ള കേരള സാഹിത്യ അക്കാദമി പുരസ്കാരം, പത്മപ്രഭാപുരസ്കാരം തുടങ്ങി സാഹിത്യലോകത്തെ തന്റെ അതുല്യമായ
സംഭാവനകളുടെ പേരിൽ പലയാവർത്തി അദ്ദേഹം ആദരിക്കപ്പെട്ടിട്ടുണ്ട്.

1952 -ൽ വയനാട് ജില്ലയിലെ കല്പറ്റയ്ക്കടുത്തുള്ള ഒരു ഗ്രാമത്തിൽ ജനിച്ച ഇദ്ദേഹം കോഴിക്കോട് ഗവണ്മെന്റ് കോളേജിലെ പൂർവവിദ്യാർത്ഥിയാണ്. തലശ്ശേരിയിലെ ഗവണ്മെന്റ് ബ്രണ്ണൻ കോളേജിൽ നിന്ന് അദ്ധ്യാപനജീവിതം
ആരംഭിച്ച ഇദ്ദേഹം ശേഷം സ്വന്തം കലാലയമായ കോഴിക്കോട് ഗവണ്മെന്റ് ആർട്സ് കോളേജിൽ തന്നെ അദ്ധ്യാപകനായി. ശേഷം കാലിക്കറ്റ്‌ യൂണിവേഴ്സിറ്റിയിലെ വിസിറ്റിംഗ് പ്രൊഫസർ ആയും പ്രവർത്തിച്ചു. കേരളത്തിലെ അറിയപ്പെടുന്ന പ്രഭാഷകരിൽ ഒരാളു കൂടിയാണ്.

2012 -ൽ കെ ഗോപിനാഥൻ സംവിധാനം ചെയ്ത ‘ഇത്രമാത്രം’ എന്ന ചലച്ചിത്രം കല്പറ്റ നാരായണന്റെ ഇതേപേരിലുള്ള നോവലിന്റെ ചലച്ചിത്രാവിഷ്കാരമായിരുന്നു. അനേകം കവിതാസമാഹാരങ്ങൾ, വിമർശനങ്ങൾ, പഠനങ്ങൾ, ഉപന്യാസങ്ങൾ തുടങ്ങിയവ രചിച്ച കൽപ്പറ്റ പ്രമുഖ പത്രമാസികകളിൽ പംക്തികൾ കൈകാര്യം ചെയ്തു വരുന്നു.

ഒരു മുടന്തന്റെ സുവിശേഷം, കവിതയുടെ ജീവചരിത്രം, ഏതിലയും മധുരിക്കുന്ന കാടുകളിൽ, ഈ കണ്ണടയൊന്ന് വെച്ച് നോക്കൂ,ബുധപക്ഷം തുടങ്ങിയവ അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ പ്രസിദ്ധ രചനകളിൽ ചിലതാണ്.
