KR Meera is an Indian author and journalist who writes in the Malayalam language. Her work predominantly explores patriarchy, discrimination and individuality. Through her words, she actively engages with her political environment, challenging the traditional power dynamics of society. She is the recipient of numerous accolades including the Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award, PUCL Human Rights National Award for Journalism, Odakkuzhal Award, Vayalar Award and Kendra Sahitya Akademi Award.

Meera was born in Sasthamkotta, Kollam district in Kerala. She is an alumna of D.B College,
Sasthamcotta and Gandhigram Rural Institute, Dindigul, Tamil Nadu. In 1993, she joined as
a journalist in Kottayam-based Malayalam daily Malayala Manorama and was the first
female journalist to be hired at the newspaper. Before resigning as the senior sub-editor of
Malayala Manorama to pursue writing as an occupation, she had brought to light several
noteworthy investigative stories, especially about women and children, which earned her the
Chowara Parameswaran Award and Deepalaya National Journalism Award for Child Rights.

Meera published her first short story collection Ormayude Njarambu in 2002. Since then, she
has published numerous novels, collections of short stories, novellas and children’s books.
Her novel Aarachaar (2012) is widely regarded as one of the best literary works produced in
the Malayalam language.The novel was translated into English by J. Devika under the title
Hangwoman: Everyone Loves a Good Hanging and was shortlisted for the prestigious DSC
Prize for South Asian Literature in 2016.

She is a renowned column-writer as well as the screenplay writer of four serials and the
associate in writing for the National Award-winning film, Ore Kadal. Some of her notable
works are Meerasadhu, Yudasinte Suvishesham, Aa Maratheyum Marannu Marannu Njan,
Ghathakan, Ormayude Njarambu, Moha Manja, Bhagavante Maranam, Ave Maria and
Kadhayezhuthu.

പരിശീലനവും ലഭിച്ചു. 2017 -ൽ അമേരിക്കയിലെ യൂണിവേഴ്സിറ്റി ഓഫ്
പെൻസിൽവേനിയ യുടെ വിസിറ്റിങ് ഫെലോ ആയി ക്ഷണിക്കപ്പെട്ടു.
